After not being to The Chequers for some time we decided spur of moment to try the Sunday Carvery. The pub was as we remembered, warm cosy lounge with real fire in the grate, warm friendly clientele of all age groups. The land lady offers a selection of three meats (which can be mixed) great selection of fresh vegetables with rich beef gravy. The portions were all you could manage, they even offer a "go large" for small extra charge, but the normal plate is addiquate. Following that is a selections of sweets (if u have room). To complete the eating experience the bar has a great selection of traditional ales lager and selection of fine wines? All at a price that won't break your pocket. The access is easy with pleasant car park. The Chequres bar is Located on the Chesterfield Canal so many people opt to sit at the tables located on the patio beside the canal. And enjoy the sun on finer days. Really can recommend the place to eat

This pub has a traditional and classical feel. The owners are very friendly and make you feel at home. The menu is full of tasty meals that are a good size and a very good price. They have themed nights like steak night, or occasionally Italian. It is a lovely country pub on the doorstep of Retford and there Sunday Roasts must not be missed!
Very nice and traditional environment in this family ran pub.It is situated near the canal , with big and spacious rooms. The owners are very nice and friendly , always make you feel comfortable. The Sunday carvery is fantastic .Overall 5 stars !
Situated in Ranby village, this family run, quaint country pub has a friendly and cosy atmosphere, with open fires and views over the Chesterfield canal, it is a pretty spot to visit and a 'home away from home' The owners always make you feel very welcome.
The Sunday carvery is well priced and delicious. During the week other home cooked meals include steak nights at an excellent value of only £8.95 and themed evenings. The pub offers a good range of drinks plus two cask ales. The pub/restaurant decor has a traditional and well kept interior throughout and the function room below is beautifully designed, overall highly recommended.
