It’s a market town full of history. Although it’s not huge, it has quite a lot of good places to visit. Retford is situated within an hour and a half via train to London, and less than an hour to Sheffield and Leeds, so is a great place for connection to some of the UK's biggest cities. The house prices make Retford one of the most affordable towns in the UK and you get far more for your money. Within only a few minutes drive there is Clumber Park, one of the most beautiful national parks, and Sherwood Forest is close by also where the well known Robin Hood came from. Whilst the town is small and intimate there are a number of theatres, dance groups, gyms and pubs that are great for socialising in. The people are very down to earth and friendly; it’s a town where you can just be yourself.
Retford does have limited job opportunities on its doorstep, as it is just a small town, but its radius offers a great deal of options for work. Previously the town had a cinema, but now you have to travel that bit further to watch a film. The old nightclub closed down and now, aside from later night pubs, there is no real club to speak of. The high street also has limited big brand stores, so a trip to Meadowhall in Sheffield is a common occurrence for the residents. Overall, if you don't mind a 20 minute car drive, then most things are within easy reach.
