More people are being sought to join in Retford's Salvation Army church and support its charitable endeavours. Uniformed or otherwise...... the church welcomes everyone and there are lots of activities you can get invovled in besides services. On Exchange Street in Retford, the church is commited to serving the local community and does so in a number of ways, such as through the provision of 'messy church' sessions for children and...
  • Retford - do our shops let us down?

By SuzannahAtkey at 19:09 on 15/04/12
What Retford Wants: more shops? Better shops? Less empty shops? Let us know what you think...
It's always interesting to hear what local people think of the shops Retford has to offer.   I overheard someone saying the other day that with seemingly more of our shops closing down, getting replaced by charity shops while other local towns seem to have a better variety, it is surpirisng anyone would still choose Retford for their shopping. The reply they received from their friend seemed to agree, noting there are more...

  • St George's Day in Retford - should we do more with it?

By SuzannahAtkey at 11:40 on 09/04/12
Will you be celebrating down at your favourite Retford pub on St George's Day? Should we do more (as a nation, a region or a town) to mark it and what could we do? Take part in our St. George's Day poll.
It's St George's Day on Monday, April 23rd - and we want to hear from Retford people about what more should/could be done to mark the day in proper style. The Local People websites will be running a new poll across all sites asking you whether you think St George's Day should be marked with a public holiday, and if we successfully campaigned for this, how would you celebrate it. The St George's Day poll will be on all Local People...
  • Enjoying Easter weekend fun in Retford?

By SuzannahAtkey at 11:07 on 09/04/12
Riber Castle... in Derbyshire... with final traces of pre-Easter snow! It's unlikely now that we'll get any in Retford but, we'll keep our eye on the forecasts just in case...!

Hope you've all been having a great Easter weekend in 'sunny' Retford (typical - why does the weather always seem to change for the Easter break!? It was gorgeous just a week ago!) However at least I haven't any snowy pics to post up this time round...I'm told we have in the past had snow at Easter in Retford? (perhaps I am too young to remember it!). Nottinghamshire seems to have...
