A SWAN was killed after it flew into electricity pylons just outside Retford.
A fire crew from Retford were called to the scene off the Great North Road along with the electricity board on Friday, December 23.
The pylon was damaged slightly but workers managed to isolate the problem.

Awful. In a way it is a shame nature has to fit in & around us, not the other way round... :( But hey that is just me 'cause I like my wildlife.

ReportAlthough very sad, it does happen quite a lot. I was cycling alone the canal a few years ago, it was a gorgeous warm evening and the sun was setting, the light was fantastic. I was a bit grumpy, as the cycling had been tough (no cycle paths) and, I stopped for a rest. Two swans took off into the evening sky, looked amazing, then, one of them exploded as it hit two pylon wires.
Not sure what can be done to prevent these types of incidents (shared world, bias towards us upstanding apes), but I think a Fox was well fed as the Swan had gone the next time I passed.
