INVESTIGATIONS into placing a wind farm at Saundby are continuing, says the potential applicant.

Although studies are still in their early stages, investigations so far suggest the site, which is owned by the Environment Agency, has the potential to host six wind turbines, says Partnerships for Renewables (PfR)

Each turbine could generate around 33 gigawatt hours (GWh) of green electricity every year, powering 7,200 homes and would have a tip height of up to 130 metres. There is also a possibility the company may expand on to neighbouring land.

PfR says there is a lot of environmental and technical work to carry out to establish whether the site is an appropriate location.

If the site is found to be suitable, it will submit a full environmental impact assessment with the planning application and said it will keep the local community informed throughout the process.

PfR expects the project will be ready for submission for a planning application no earlier than mid-2012.

Beckingham-cum-Saundby Parish Council says it is awaiting the outcome of tests being carried out before making a statement.
