Yesterday a few newcomers to Retford town commented on the dangers of the A1 South Junction at Ranby.

Junction at Ranby

Immediately after a Give Way sign on the left you see the 50 miles per hour sign.

Christine Lee, from Leeds
As you are coming off the A1 the road travels around a bend and the visibility is restricted due to the sharpness of the turn. The first sign you see is a Give Way sign, but immediately after you see a sign stating 50 miles an hour. The sign gives the impression that you are allowed to increase your speed and seconds after that you see the actual T junction. Upon this realisation, at this point a sudden and immediate stop is required.
Christine Lee from Leeds was visiting Retford for the first time yesterday when she came across the junction and expressed, "I was shocked and felt the road was very dangerous, somethings not right with this junction". Another visitor Andrew Jones also commented on the junction, "It is a very deceptive turning, you need to be made aware that you have a T junction coming as otherwise, especially in the dark, people can fail to stop, I will be interested to discover if any accidents have occurred at this junction before as I feel its an accident waiting to happen!".
The junction is clearly a concern for visitors to the town, it is suggested that the Ranby/ Retford turnoff from the A1 South has a clear stop sign instead of the 50 miles per hour sign. Does anyone else have any experience or thoughts about this matter?

Theres a national speed limit sign just outside Clayworth, just before the humpback bridge. Is this also a danger? Any speed limit sign is there as a MAXIMUM speed, but you always drive to the conditions you see.
If you can't understand that, you shouldn't be on the road. Can't believe this has been posted. What a load of garbage.
